Ecofibras Aranguren SL., Aranguren, Zalla Bizkaia, Spain, has contracted Toscotec, Italy, to configure/rebuild its No. 5 tissue machine (TM 5). The rebuild will reconfigure the mill’s existing TM 5 into a crescent former.

Ecofibras Aranguren is the tissue producing facility of the CEL group, which formerly was the KC Aranguren mill that two years ago began operations as an independent company. This current investment is part of a development plan designed to increase production capacity and improve quality to supply the parent reel market, both in virgin and in deinked pulp reels.

The current TM 5 is equipped with a suction breast former and sloped wire configuration, double press section, and a 4,500-mm.-dia., cast iron yankee dryer. The maximum actual operating speed is 1,370 m/min with a drying capacity of 101 metric tpd. To produce grades with lower basis weight than today (the required basis weight range is 10 - 36 gsm on the wire), Toscotec will supply a stock preparation upgrading together with the entire engineering for a fully hydraulic step diffuser headbox (TT HEADBOX SL-T) as well as complete replacement of the wet-end section into the crescent former configuration.

The goal of the rebuild is to increase tissue machine operating speed up to 1,500 m/min. initially, reduce electrical power consumption, improve formation quality, and improve MD/CD ratio. Actually, the design speed for the new supplied equipment is 1,900 m/min. which means the mill can possibility achieve a future operating speed of 1,800 m/min. by a subsequent modification of the dry-end section.

The Ecofibras tissue machine will be the 70th Toscotec’s installed crescent former.
