The target completion date for the review of each TIP is one year after the opening of the Work Item.

Withdrawal of TIPs

TIP 0416-14: Water quality guidelines and monitoring requirements for paper mill boilers operating with softened makeup water, has been withdrawn due to lack of progress in its regular review. This Automatically Periodically Reviewed TIP is required to be reviewed every 5 years.

TIP 0603-02: Stickies definition and classification has been withdrawn due to lack of progress in its regular review. This Automatically Periodically Reviewed TIP is required to be reviewed every 5 years.

Withdrawn TIPs are available free for TAPPI members and for a $10 charge to nonmembers. Anyone wishing to open a Work Item for reinstatement of withdrawn TIPs should contact

TAPPI TIP 0404-49: Yankee dryer steam condensing rates

Scope: This technical information paper defines the area basis for condensing rate calculations, references separator rise-time method for measuring condensing load and provides condensing rate data from Yankee dryers producing tissue and towel paper grades. This data gives an indication of the expected range of condensing rates, effect of steam pressure on the rates, and expected scatter in the measured data.

Members for Working Groups of TIPs needed

Volunteers for the following working groups of Technical Information Papers (TIPs) are needed. All Working Groups of TIPs require a minimum of 3 TAPPI members from 3 different companies in order to review a TIP. The following TIPs do not have an assigned Working Group Chair (WGC) to initiate the review:

  • TIP 0304-47 Corrugator bearing clearance checks and their impact
  • TIP 0304-66 Impact of doublebacker hot plate level on board quality and how to measure it
  • TIP 0305-30 The need for planned maintenance
  • TIP 0306-11 Quality techniques using existing printing equipment
  • TIP 0402-38 Best practice guidelines for detecting and mitigating waterside cracking (stress-assisted corrosion) in power and recovery boilers

SSIG Members Needed

The Standard-Specific Interest Groups (SSIGs) for the following Standards are in need of additional members. These groups may or may not have ballots currently open.

All Standard-Specific Interest Groups (SSIG) require a minimum of 10 members in order to ballot and vote on a draft of a method. The following test methods do not have the required minimum number of members to initiate a ballot:
