General Announcements

New Webinar on TAPPI TIP 0404-66 - Thermocompressor Applications for Paper Drying

TAPPI will present an all-new webinar on August 13 called Thermocompressor Applications for Paper Drying (TAPPI TIP 0404-66), which takes a closer look at the contents of TAPPI TIP 0404-66.

Thermocompressors are often misunderstood, overlooked, and misapplied in the paper industry. This webinar will include information from TAPPI TIP 0404-66, which describes thermocompressors in general from their applications, performance and limitations, to control methods as applied to the paper industry. As numerous paper machines are being modernized and converted from producing graphic papers to containerboard, the proper application of thermocompressors is more important than ever.

The webinar is being taught by Mike Soucy, President, Kadant Johnson Systems. Mike is a mechanical engineer graduate from Lakehead University, Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada with has more than 30 years of experience in the pulp and paper industry specializing in steam and condensate systems.

This webinar will be held on Tuesday, August 13 from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Attendance is free, but registration is required. Reserve your space today.  If you have any questions regarding this webinar, please contact Ben Hopper at BHopper@tappi.org.

Sponsored by TAPPI’s Papermaking Technology and Operations Committee (PTOC) with industry partner the Papermaking Technology Committee of the Pulp and Paper Technical Association of Canada (PAPTAC).

TAPPI Standards Online Balloting System Update

The migration of the Standards Online Balloting System from Kavi to TAPPI Connect created many undesirable issues in the new Workspace, including some SSIG members losing the ability to connect to the Workspace where the ballots were held.  All ballots in progress on the migration day had their deadlines extended out to December to prevent the automatic reminders being sent out every few weeks.

TAPPI has been focused on resolving these issues and is currently testing a new Workspace that we hope will be available soon so we can resume the balloting process.  Once the system is functional again, all SSIG members will receive a message informing them about the new workspace, how to log in and vote.  Open ballots will be rescheduled so that all members will have a chance to review the Standard for 45 days.

TAPPI is very excited with the possibility of communicating good news in the near future!

If you have any questions, please write to TAPPI Standards Department at standards@tappi.org.

Best regards,

Priscila Briggs
Standards Manager
