NEW TIPs proposed

Two new TIPs in the areas of Pulp Manufacture and Engineering have been proposed. Any individuals who are interested to review the final draft for these TIPs may request it to the Standards Department at standards@tappi.org and send comments to this same e-mail address within 30 days of this notice.

The titles and scopes for the two TIPs are shown below. The WI number indicates the Work Item number.

0609 - Nonwood Plant Fibers
WI 140609.01  Common or local names for a nonwood fiber raw material
Scope:
Nonwood fiber raw materials offer pulp and paper makers a vast potential resource in addition to trees.
One of the difficulties encountered often is matching the common or local name for a particular nonwood fiber raw material with its scientific name so that one can search for available technical literature on the nonwood fiber raw material.
This TIP provides the scientific names and the common/local names of nonwood fiber raw materials that are currently used by the international pulp and paper industry or that have been the focus of published research. The list likely does not include all of the nonwood fiber raw materials that have been studied in research papers, and it should be considered a work-in-progress.
As much as possible, this TIP includes the common names in English, French, German and Spanish. In addition, common/local names in other languages are included where known.

0425 - Yankee Dryer Safety and Reliability
WI 160425.03  Guidelines for usage of MAP on raw Yankee surfaces
Scope:
This Technical Information Paper (TIP) will provide general guidelines for the usage of MAP to protect raw Yankee dryer surfaces after grinding or polishing the surface of a cast iron Yankee. MAP reacts with the cast iron surface to form a ferrous-phosphate layer on the Yankee surface. This document is not meant to supersede recommendations by original equipment manufacturers.
