Proposed new TIP: NOx Emissions Control from Biomass and Kraft Recovery Boilers in the Pulp and Paper Industry

A proposal has been made for a new Technical Information Paper (TIP): "NOx Emissions Control from Biomass and Kraft Recovery Boilers in the Pulp and Paper Industry."

The purpose of this TIP is to provide the Pulp and Paper Industry with basic information on NOx formation and control technologies. After years of limited interest in applying NOx regulations on industrial boilers that fire biomass derived fuel (hog fuel, bark, wood chips, saw dust, sander dust, railroad ties, pulp mill clarifier sludges, construction and demolition debris, and pulping liquors), regulators in some states are establishing NOx emissions limits on boilers that are strict enough to impact boiler operations. Informed decisions on fuel usage, operating parameters, NOx control technology implementation, and impact on other pollutant generation will be needed. This TIP offers background information to help engineers, operating staff, and managers understand the issues and the options that are available to meet compliance requirements.

Any individuals who are interested in this TIP may join the Working Group and have an opportunity to review the TIP prior to its publication. If you would like to join the Working Group for this project, please notify the Standards Department at standards@tappi.org no later than December 19, 2014.
