The American Society of Agricultural and Biological Engineers (ASABE) announces that the first seven international standards in the rapidly expanding industry of solid biofuels have been published. In addition, work has also begun on part 8 of the series.
The newly published documents are as follows: ISO 17225 Solid biofuels — Fuel specifications and classes — Part 1 General requirements; Part 2 Graded wood pellets; Part 3 Graded wood briquettes; Part 4 Graded wood chips; Part 5 Graded firewood; Part 6 Graded non-woody pellets; and Part 7 Graded non-woody briquettes. The new project, Part 8, will cover thermally treated and densified biomass fuels
ASABE is accredited by the American National Standards Institute as the administrator for the U.S. Technical Advisory Group (TAG) to the ISO committee on solid biofuels, TC 238, which was established in 2007 in response to growing global trade in the subject commodities. Currently, there are over two dozen projects in development within ISO on solid biofuels.
