See Why You Should Participate in TAPPI Standards
You too can expand your network and establish yourself as a SME

TAPPI Standards Test Methods are procedures and related practices used in the measurement, evaluation, and description of pulp, paper, packaging, and related products, including raw materials used in their manufacture, use, or in scientific investigations of any such substances. There are more than 240 TAPPI Standards and each has a Standard-Specific Interest Group (SSIG) made up of industry professionals who regularly review and vote on that standard.

All SSIGs require a minimum of 10 members in order to ballot and vote on a draft of a method and many have open ballots. You can join an SSIG at any stage of the process and participate at your convenience.

Now’s a great time to get involved! See what others have said about their participation in Standards and TIPs.

Your time is valuable, and so is your perspective. You may be new to the industry but you bring something new to the industry, too.

  • No mandatory meetings to attend
  • Minimal time commitment. You can expect to spend 20 minutes to six hours over the course of a Standard’s five-year life cycle
  • You are encouraged to participate in multiple SSIGs

Your opinion matters. Different views and perspectives are valued in SSIGs. Neither TAPPI membership nor deep experience is a required to participate in a SSIG. Anyone that uses a TAPPI Standard is familiar with the technical review process or other standards is welcome.

What is required?

  • Willingness to grow as an industry influencer, sharing your expertise, knowledge and technical information to help shape the industry’s future
  • Inclination to gain an instant network of technically inclined and involved peers
  • Curiosity and a thirst for knowledge. There’s no better way to gain a comprehensive understanding of what a test method does, how it works and learn about its practical uses than by being part of a SSIG

Join a SSIG now.

TAPPI Standards guidelines require that all TAPPI members receive notification of any proposed new Standard or TIPs. This message is being sent to you because you are a TAPPI member; have purchased TIPs or Standards products from TAPPI; or because you have previously expressed interest in this topic.
