TIP 0425-07: Safe and Reliable Start-Up and Shut-Down of Yankee Hood Air Systems

This Technical Information Paper (TIP) provides general procedures for start-up and shut-down of Yankee hood air systems. This TIP does not include guidelines for start-up or shut-down of Yankee cylinders. Information regarding this may be found in “Guidelines for Safe Assessment and Operation of Yankee Dryers”, which is available from TAPPI.

Following proper procedure for start-up and shut-down of Yankee hoods and air systems will:

  • Minimize the risk of injury to personnel.
  • Minimize potential damage to production and building assets
  • Potentially improve reliability and the efficiency with which these operations are conducted.
