Non-producer SSIG members needed for new starch methods

A proposal was announced in January 2013 for a new standard test method: "Starch in paper or paperboard." This new standard would replace the withdrawn standards T 531 "Starch consumption in corrugated board (enzymatic/gravimetric method)" and T 532 "Starch consumption in corrugated board (enzymatic/colorimetric method)."

Although enough responses were received to obtain the minimum required for an SSIG, the balance is not acceptable in accordance with the guidelines we must follow from ANSI. No more than 50% of the SSIG members may come from one particular interest group.

Currently more than half of this new SSIG are producers. We need SSIG members in non-producer categories to join in order to achieve the proper balance.

The scope of the method is: This standard test method provides the procedure for the analysis of starch content in paper or paperboard, either as an internal or sizing additive or as a component of starch adhesive in lamination or corrugated board.

Any individuals who are interested in this Standard may join the SSIG to receive ballots when this method is ready for vote. To join, please notify the Standards Department at standards@tappi.org or by fax at +1-770-446-6947 no later than April 17, 2013.

TAPPI Standards guidelines require that all TAPPI members receive notification of any proposed new Standard or TIPs.
