Revised Standards Review Schedule for January-June 2010

Due to the recently achieved ANSI certification, the review schedule for standards has been revised. The new procedures require an announcement to be placed in ANSI Standards Action 30 days prior to the initiation of a ballot on a standard that is up for review and which has never before been submitted by TAPPI as an American national standard. Since the review schedule was announced prior to the certification, the schedule must now be changed so that we have time to place these public annoucements of reviews for standards that may eventually be submitted as national standards.

The major change in the schedule is moving the reviews of Classical Methods to the beginning of the year. Classical Mathods, in accordance with the TAPPI guidelines, are not submitted as national standards, so they no not have to be announced prior to ballot. By reviewing the Classical Methods on the list first, it will allow up time to place the proper announcements for the reviews of the other standards, all of which would be eligible for submission as national standards upon final approval.

Below is the revised schedule. The date indicated is the target date on which the draft will be posted for review by TAPPI members in the Members Only section of the TAPPI website. Go to the home page (www.tappi.org), log on with your member ID and password, place your cursor over "Membership," and select "My TAPPI" from the dropdown box. When your personal page appears, click on the "Standards Public Draft Review" link on the left-hand side. You do not have to be a member of the Standard Specific Interest Group to comment on the draft.

If you have joined the Standard Specific Interest Group for any Standards, you will receive a notice for ballot at the proper time with instructions for casting your vote and making your comments. TAPPI membership is no longer required to become a voting member of an SSIG. If you wish to join the Standard Specific Interest Group for a particular Standard, please go to the Subject Categories for Standards page or contact the Standards Department at TAPPI (standards@tappi.org), or phone +1-770-209-7276, or fax +1-770-446-6947.
