We honor James E. Macklem and send our sympathy and condolences to his family, colleagues and friends. James passed away in Beloit, WI, on September 4, 2019.

James graduated Phi Beta Kappa in 1949 from Beloit College with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and physics.  He continued his education to receive a Ph.D. from the Institute of Paper Chemistry.

James was a third-generation employee of Beloit Corporation and worked there for over 30 years. He supported various divisions in research, sales, and he bacame the head of the Estimating Department. For his work, he travelled extensively in Europe and the U.S. Throughout his life he kept well-informed of advances in paper machine technology and expanded this through his membership with TAPPI. James will surely be missed by our industry.
