Valmet has on September 11, 2020, entered into an agreement to acquire PMP Group in Poland. The enterprise value of the acquisition is approximately EUR 64 million, plus a conditional and capped earn-out component. The acquisition is estimated to be completed on October 1, 2020 at the earliest.

Valmet and Metsä Board have signed an agreement on data-driven optimization of paperboard quality of the board machine at Metsä Board’s Kemi mill. The machine produces premium quality white top kraftliner. Valmet will supply the mill with Valmet Industrial Internet VII Data Discovery and VII for Paper Quality solutions.

Due to market conditions that remain unfavorable, after a 6-month temporary shutdown, Kruger Specialty Papers is forced to permanently shut down its newsprint, specialty papers and pulp production at its Brompton Mill. However, the water treatment plant will continue to operate and the biomass cogeneration plant will restart.

Metsä Group announced that the annual maintenance shutdown of its integrated pulp and paper Kemi mill in Finland will take place during week 38 (14 - 20 September).

Each of the new tissue machines is of the type PrimeLineCOMPACT M 1600 with a design speed of 1,700 m/min and a working width of 3.65 m. All of them are equipped with a proven PrimeFlow step diffusor headbox for superior formation quality.

SCA decided to discontinue the production of publication paper and to invest SEK 1,45bn in the production of chemically pre-treated thermo-mechanical pulp (CTMP) at the Ortviken industrial site in Sundsvall. The decision has been preceded by consultations with employee representatives.

Sonoco (NYSE: SON), one of the largest global diversified packaging companies, today announced it has acquired Can Packaging, a privately-owned designer and manufacturer of sustainable paper packaging and related manufacturing equipment, based in Habsheim, France, for total consideration of €41.7 million, or approximately $49 million.

Over the last two years, Domtar has evaluated the merits of repurposing key paper machines as we adjust our white paper production capacity to match our customer demand. That’s why we recently announced we are converting our Kingsport, Tennessee, paper mill into the company’s first containerboard facility.

New Products
Following a complete design upgrade of its rewinder line, Toscotec launched the new OPTIMA rewinders. The new line has achieved recognition in the market with eight rewinders already sold in Europe, North America and Asia, including single and double width machines.

Supermarket giant Aldi is taking steps to green its red meat, by rolling out cardboard packaging across its entire steak range in 890 UK stores. The move - which it estimates could save 1,100 metric tons of plastic a year - will see the new packaging introduced for the supermarket's 15 steak products from the start of October.

South Africa’s paper recovery rate is at 68.5% with 1.2 million metric tons of recyclable paper products diverted from landfill during 2019, according to Anele Sololo, general manager of RecyclePaperZA, the paper recycling association of South Africa.
