COVID-19 Impact
Ahlstrom-Munksjö has developed a face mask material as part of the Resilience project, administrated by the French Government. During May, the company will produce material equivalent to 100 million face masks for civil servants in contact with the public such as police, prison administration and social workers as well as companies active in essential sectors e.g. food, energy, water and waste.

Weekly Spotlight
Two paper machines at the Androscoggin Mill resumed operations, roughly a week after an explosion damaged the facility’s pulp operation. The A4 and A5 paper machines were restarted last week. “The A4 and A5 machines are now running 24×7 and customer service and sales personnel are taking orders from customers,” the company said.
 
Domtar Corporation today announced it has completed its purchase of the Point of Sale (POS) paper business from Appvion Operations, Inc. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
 
Valmet and Metsä Fibre, which is part of Metsä Group, have signed a preliminary agreement according to which Valmet will deliver key technology covering all main process islands and automation systems to Metsä Fibre's planned Kemi bioproduct mill in Finland.

For a second time, FITNIR Analyzers was selected by Södra, a leading pulp producer based in Sweden, for its online pulp liquor analyzer. “This is an exciting project for FITNIR, as it is our second installation at a Södra mill,” says Thanh Trung, COO & CTO. “Being awarded with a project at Södra Cell Mönsterås in 2016 and now at Södra Cell Värö is an indication of approval of our technology.”

New Products
In response to heightened concern around viral transmission and COVID-19, Seaman Paper has introduced a new paper-based solution designed to help minimize direct hand contact with high-contact common surfaces. High-Touch Barrier Tissue is an FDA-compliant paper, packaged with either 500 or 1,000 "grab-and-go" sheets, which can serve as a barrier between hands and high-contact surfaces.
 
Modern, high-speed tissue machines require high-production efficiencies that challenge tissue makers. Production levels must maintain design capacity with the option for even higher production levels dependent upon demand.
 
Sappi, a leading producer and supplier of diversified paper, packaging products and dissolving pulp, today launched Ultracast Viva, a textured release paper line made specifically for high-fidelity PVC, PU, semi-PU and solvent-free casting systems. This product embodies Sappi's forward-looking sustainability practices to align with global goals for environmentally-friendly manufacturing.

Valmet will deliver a biomass-fired boiler plant to Tampereen Sähkölaitos Oy’s Naistenlahti power plant in Tampere, Finland. The new Naistenlahti 3 boiler will replace the Naistenlahti 2 boiler that has reached the end of its technical lifetime.
