In 2015, New Zealand exported 14.7 million cubic meters of radiata pine logs, of which almost 10 million cubic meters were shipped to China. This was down from a record high of almost 12 million cubic meters in 2013. In late 2015 and early 2016, Chinese log buyers became more active in the New Zealand log market, with shipments increasing from 1.8 million cubic meters in the 3Q/15 to 2.5 million cubic meters in the 1Q/16.

Q2 2016 was a strong period for capacity use of German envelope paper and shipping bag paper. "Machines were pretty busy," one source told EUWID, noting that Q1 could thus be described as good. However, business had now become a little quieter, although companies reportedly remain busy for the summertime.

U.S. containerboard inventories in June dropped 152,000 tons on stronger than expected box shipments in the spring. The drop brought inventories down to 2.426 million tons, a level 7% higher than the 10 year June average. The 152,000-ton decline compares with an average decline of about 4,000 tons for June during the past decade.
