Valmet has received an order from Saica Group to supply a biomass boiler and flue gas cleaning system for its plant in El Burgo de Ebro, Zaragoza, Spain. The boiler plant is scheduled to be handed over to Saica at the end of 2026.
The delivery includes a Valmet BFB Boiler utilizing bubbling fluidized bed (BFB) technology. Designed to produce over 700,000 metric tons of steam per year, the BFB boiler will operate using biomass as fuel. This will substantially reduce fossil fuel consumption and CO₂ emissions, supporting Saica’s commitment to sustainability and circular economy principles.
“This project is part of Saica Group’s decarbonization plan and fully aligned with our core values: ‘We Care, We Value, We Challenge’. It has been awarded a PERTE (Strategic Project for Economic Recovery and Transformation) grant by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism. We chose Valmet because of their proven BFB boiler technology and the successful cooperation on previous projects. We expect this new collaboration to bring success to this ambitious initiative,” says Juan Antonio Meler, Industrial Projects Director at Saica Group.
“We are delighted to support Saica in their ambitious decarbonization project. This order highlights the relevance of our advanced boiler technologies in helping industries shift towards more sustainable energy solutions. It reflects Valmet’s expertise and commitment to providing high-quality, innovative solutions that meet our customers’ needs,” says Lauri Pehu-Lehtonen, Vice President, Energy and Circularity at Valmet.
Valmet’s delivery includes a Valmet BFB Boiler along with auxiliary equipment and the boiler building, including erection, commissioning, and start-up. The scope also comprises a flue gas cleaning system equipped with a bag house filter.
