A United States-based Study Mission is being formed to go to Finland this June with the goal of the visit to do a listening tour of Finland’s forestry knowhow, forest policy, carbon reduction and forest industry. A similar trade mission took place in June 2023 with participants from Maine, Michigan, Arkansas, Minnesota and Washington.
American delegates focused on forest machinery manufacturers, forest management, wood construction equipment, pulp and paper, and ready-build wooden buildings, as well as new innovative biobased products such as wood-based textile fibers, building materials, CLT, LVL, biomass-based chemicals, lignin and biofuels, will be invited to attend. States to be invited to participate include Arkansas, Georgia and Michigan, with two others to be named.
Participants will represent policy makers, forest commissioners, senators, Department of Natural Resources, leading research universities, development agencies, and various industries, including sawmills, forest owners, logging companies, pulp and paper manufacturers, wood architecture and building companies and investors seeking equipment vendors from Finland.
The Trade and Study Mission will be inviting a maximum of 70 participants from the selected states to join the mission.
