Breaking Down Barriers Isn’t Just About Communication

With growing concern about the global environment, consumers are putting greater pressure on companies to develop more recyclable and sustainable approaches when producing packaging. Functional coatings applied to paper and paperboard substrates as a barrier to media such as oil and grease (OGR), water, water vapor (MVTR) and oxygen are under scrutiny.

Don Ventresca of Trinseo will offer an innovative solution to barrier coating during his presentation, “Multi-functional Barrier Coating Systems Created by Multi-layer Curtain Coating,” at TAPPICon 2023. As part of the Coating and Graphic Arts track, Ventresca’s presentation will address water-based barrier coatings for OGR, water, MVTR and oxygen barrier performance. He will share details on a coated system that can achieve more than one barrier property, using multi-layer curtain coating (MLCC), in one application step. Attendees will also learn how MLCC can ultimately lower their material costs.
