In Memoriam: Doug Woods

Doug Woods, vice president of Dixie Pulp & Paper Inc., Tuscaloosa, Alabama, has died at age 63 after battling brain cancer, according to an obituary posted to the website of a Tuscaloosa funeral home.
Woods was born in Rochester, New York, but raised in Tuscaloosa and attended Louisiana State University, graduating in 1985.
After stints in nonpaper industry occupations, Woods eventually accepted positions at International Cellulose Corp. and then New Jersey-based Wilmington Paper Corp.
Woods and his family moved to Tuscaloosa in 1996 when he joined Dixie Pulp & Paper, a recovered paper processing and trading firm, as part owner and vice president.
According to his obituary, Woods worked at Dixie Pulp & Paper for nearly 29 years and “built strong relationships with his clients and co-workers, treating them as friends and family.”
Woods also was an active member of the Paperboard Packaging Council, managing its J. Edward Woods Scholar Award in honor of his father, and the Paper Stock Industries (PSI) Chapter of the Washington-based Recycled Materials Association (ReMA), participating in charity events sponsored by Dixie’s customers and suppliers.
Hobbies to which Woods devoted time included hunting and fishing with family and friends, cooking, photography, motorcycles, following LSU Tigers football, paddleboarding, hiking and travel.
