Sappi supports initiatives across Europe that demonstrate the relevance of paper in an increasingly digital world. Through collaboration with industry associations and educational institutions, Sappi is actively working to dispel misconceptions about paper, enhance its environmental credentials and reaffirm its role in modern communication strategies.
The strong future of printing
For the first time in France, Sappi and a collective of graphic arts professionals joined forces with the GMI (Groupement des métiers de l’Impression et de la Communication) to launch a national campaign to promote paper and printing. The aim of this campaign, aimed at the general public, was to highlight the value of paper. Through four visuals, the most widespread false myths, linked to deforestation, recyclability and understanding, were addressed. The campaign, which featured a paper superhero, was structured in a 360° communication and also extended to social media, targeting young people in particular, a digital native audience, to demonstrate the crucial role of paper in a sustainable future.
In Italy, the “OrigAMA la carta” campaign was another important educational initiative, reaching over 1,000 students in 15 schools and universities. Promoted by a group of associations from the paper, printing and graphic arts sectors, this project invited students to develop creative campaigns to promote the environmental values of paper. Sappi contributed both resources and expertise, supporting the direction and development of the project. The initiative produced remarkable results: over 400 students entered the creative competition and the winning campaign was spread across multiple channels, including subway billboards, newsstand displays and social media. The concept used origami (making paper animals) in a creative way to tell the story of the paper industry’s protection of forests, with the message “Those who live from the forest, protect it! So does paper.” As if to say that those who receive from the forest, give back to the forest. And paper keeps this promise.
Meanwhile, in the Germany, Sappi is proudly supporting WE. LOVE. PRINT, a movement dedicated to strengthening the print industry and positioning it within modern omnichannel communication ecosystems. The initiative aims to raise awareness of the values of print and sustainability, while providing training opportunities in the field of graphic arts. Sappi participates annually as a funding partner and supplier of premium papers for WE. LOVE.PRINT magazines and promotional materials. The platform invites print enthusiasts from across the industry to participate. The communication about the print service offering is of course also addressed to society. After all, print is not just an industrial topic, but an integral part of social life. Sappi also actively promotes this integrated approach via newsletters and social channels. This helps to keep print communication relevant, innovative and sustainable within contemporary marketing strategies.
Towards a sustainable future
“In a world facing increasingly pressing environmental challenges, the paper industry is a transformative example ,” says Flavio Froehli, VP Sales and Marketing at Sappi Europe. “These initiatives demonstrate how our industry has evolved beyond paper production to drive real environmental change. We are actively reducing carbon emissions, leading the way in circular economy practices and educating future generations about more sustainable communication choices. We are showing how an industry can adapt and thrive, while achieving key sustainability goals.”
A look to the future
With these initiatives, Sappi is strengthening the foundation for the future of paper as a renewable and sustainable medium. As the industry continues to innovate in production methods and circular economy practices, it is setting new standards for environmental responsibility.
