A Red Carpet Welcome

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

I have been visiting our members places of business for the past 17 years now. This is the first time I have ever had a Red-Carpet Welcome.

Red Carpet Team

Lawton Roberts our COO and I were extremely impressed with these folks.

This company started around 1885, 30 years before TAPPI, and has been growing ever since. Some of their Tag Lines include:

“Building a Better a Better World” “Our Primary Vision is People”

“Pioneers in the Paper Converting Industry”

These are just a few of the comments I heard on our visit…

“We strive to make our employees feel valued in and out of the workplace.”

“We show them not just tell them how much we care about the lives of the people we are leading.”

Have you guessed who these folks are? Drum roll please, non-other than BW Papersystems. They are located at 10615 Beaver Dam Road, Hunt Valley, MD 21030 USA and employ 300 team members at this facility.

BW Papersystems is the combination of 13 well-known global brands that serve the corrugating, sheeting, packaging, stationary, book binding, and security documents industries. Their legacy of quality and performance is celebrated daily while continually looking to the future for innovative solutions for their customers.

The company as it exists today began when global capital equipment and engineering firm Barry-Wehmiller acquired Philips from Wisconsin-based Marquip. Marquip’s founders were Carl Marschke and Richard Thomas.

In 2022, they brought together three companies, Marquip, Ward Machinery, and United Container Machinery Company. They have continued their growth by adding multiple companies over the years.

Currently BW Papersystems serves customers in more than 120 countries across the globe. Worldwide, the company has more than 2,100 team members who work in 21 locations throughout 12 countries. Since 2000, BW Papersystems has risen from a $100M company to a $540M diversified global frontrunner.

Lawton and I were extremely amazed to witness the future in the making! That’s all on that for now.

Our hosts for our visit included, Ashley Yeager-Marketing Communications Specialist, Steve Biller-Sr. Product Manager-Global Finishing, Maximo Leyva-Vice President-Global Engineering Projects and Standards and last but not least the seven members of the RCWC (Red Carpet Welcome Committee).

Maximo Leyva, Steve Biller, Ashley Yeager

Remember, there are two types of people in this industry, TAPPI members and those who should be. Until next time………………………Larry
