There’s only less than three weeks left until WMU’s Fiber Recycling Course, held Tuesday, August 15 – Thursday, August 17 at WMU in Kalamazoo, MI. Participants will broaden their knowledge of the entire process of fiber recycling and meet 15+ expert guest speakers. The networking alone is worth the price of admission.

The course will cover a full view of the circular economy that is fiber recycling – from brand perspectives, sustainability drivers, recyclable certifications and legislation, to collection, MRF sorting, reprocessing and papermaking. If you’re new to the paper recycling industry or wish to broaden and update your knowledge of the basics of recycled fiber collection, processing, use and market drivers, this course is designed for you!

Participants will enjoy premier food, local craft beer, live jazz and the chance to win prizes during a networking dinner at the world-famous Bell’s Eccentric Café

Held on the last day of the course, spend the afternoon with WMU’s Paper Pilot Plant crew and see processes firsthand. This includes:

  • Fiber recycling operations (pulping, screening, cleaning).
  • Paper making on the newly installed dual fourdrinier pilot machine.
  • Spend time in our papermaking/paper testing labs. You will see a bale of recovered paper enter the process, the recovery of the fibers and the production of recycled paper (forming, pressing, drying, calendering).

Earn Continuing Education

Earn 1.4 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) or 14 Professional Development Hours after completion of this course. This course has been reviewed and approved by the International Association for Continuing Education and Training (IACET).
