TAPPI Industry Career Center: Hargrove Engineers & Constructors Seeks a Pulp & Paper Process Engineer III

Job Summary: Engineering role responsible for all Pulp & Paper discipline deliverables (both process & mechanical) in phased project execution. The extent of independent operation will be based on knowledge & experience and balanced with supporting roles. This work will be performed under general supervision.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Promoting the culture of working safely and applying safety related concepts into process and mechanical design.
  • Assisting in establishing the design criteria, incorporating client requirements, estimating, scope basis and design basis meeting applicable state, local and federal standards and codes.
  • Understanding and familiarity with project scope, specifications, and design criteria upon assignment to a project team.
  • Advising the Lead Engineer of potential design or scope
  • Understanding and familiarity with project
  • Consulting with design leaders from other disciplines to ensure inter-disciplinary alignment on
  • Assist in producing estimate level preliminary designs and material take-offs suitable for the level of estimate being performed on a project.
  • Assist in developing conceptual layouts and cost studies as necessary to determine the most ideal and efficient approach to solving engineering tasks at hand.
  • Familiarity with and utilizing department standards, procedures, and
  • Producing detailed general arrangement drawings to define project scope and layout project
  • Work with equipment suppliers and vendors to define required equipment for early project
  • Producing detail design calculations and drawings for the project. Calculations produced will be neatly prepared and organized for efficient checking by others. Efficient use of designers in the development of drawings.
  • Assist and produce project designs that are optimal and efficient with an overall emphasis on ease of construction, operability, and maintenance. The completed design should meet the specifications and expectations of the client.
  • Checking drawings, calculations, reports, and studies made by other engineers to ensure accuracy, as well as conformance to codes, specifications, design criteria and good engineering practices.
  • Assist and produce equipment and construction
  • Reviewing and checking vendor information and other discipline information needs for process engineering input.
  • Assist and develop engineering specifications, equipment specifications, and equipment data

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

  • Working knowledge of relevant engineering computer
  • Ability to create accurate engineering documents from the information provided in vendor equipment data and drawings.
  • Working understanding of the skills and experience required to perform process and mechanical engineering project work and design functions.
  • Working knowledge of CAD software preferred, either AutoCAD or Microstation (or both).
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
  • Basic knowledge in the use of hydraulic simulation software such as AFT Fathom, AFT Arrow, PIPE-FLO, and/or SiNet.
  • Working knowledge in the use of process simulation software such as
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Virtual team skills and cross divisional relationships are developed and able to provide interoffice execution support with general supervision.

Education: Bachelor or Master of Science degree in Chemical, Mechanical, Biochemical, or Petroleum Engineering from an accredited university is required.

Registration: Professional Engineering registration is not required but will be expected after experience qualification is met.

Experience: This position requires 5 to 10 years of relevant industry experience in pulp and paper, mechanical, chemical, or process engineering
