ND Paper’s mills in Rumford, Maine and Biron Wisconsin are integrated paper & pulp facilities, and the ones in Fairmont, West Virginia are one of only three in the world that produces air-dried, recycled pulp. The fourth mill in Old Town, ME produces softwood kraft pulp. ND Paper is proud of their 1400 dedicated employees, who together produce more than 1.2 million short tons of pulp & paper annually.

The company is looking to hire top talent to join their dynamic team! ND Paper offers full benefits and a competitive compensation. They are currently seeking an experienced Safety & Security Manager to join their team. 

Main Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Demonstrates safety as a core value and establish a safe work environment by actively leading the safe execution of work
  • A key member of the leadership team that is responsible for managing all aspects of health, safety and security for the facility.
  • Drive the implementation of a zero-injury culture, including implementing safety programs, ensuring all employees and contractors are properly trained and equipped to perform work safely, and auditing to ensure program effectiveness.
  • Establish safety policies and work practices, to ensure a safe organization that is compliant  with all State, Federal and ND Paper rules and regulations.
  • Provide technical safety expertise to managers, supervisors and employees including program development, implementation and execution.
  • Ensures that proper safety equipment is obtained and accessible to employees.
  • Ensures that timely incident investigations are completed and conducts incident investigation training with mill management.
  • Manages the mill’s clean production initiatives and networks with ND Paper counterparts on implementing best practices, auditing, tracking, etc.
  • Responsible for overseeing industrial hygiene for the site.
  • Ensures the facility’s fire protection systems are, functional, sustainable and compliant with requirements.
  • Responsible for risk management of the site for fire protection and security needs; is the point of contact for insurance related inspections, audits and needs.
  • Oversees the mill’s contracted security services.
  • Networks with other safety, environmental and security experts across ND Paper and participates in cross-divisional meetings and teams.

Qualifications/ Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree (or higher) in Engineering, Safety, Industrial Hygiene or related filed
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience in a Safety or Health role working in an industrial facility
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure for situations affecting safety of personnel or equipment
  • Ability to coach, mentor, lead and direct employees to meet stated objectives regarding safety, clean production and sustainability
  • Candidate must possess strong organizational, communication, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Ability to handle multiple time sensitive projects and issues and delegate decision making and other responsibilities when needed
  • Committed to safety, clean production, environmental stewardship, and continuous improvement
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively as a team member as well as independently
  • Candidate must model ND Paper’s values and achieve results through safe and clean work practices, respect for people, minimal environmental impact, quality and customers first, and social responsibility
