TAPPI Nanotechnology is once again organizing an informative webinar: Cellulose Nanocrystals in Cementitious Systems – Pilot and Commercial Scale, taking place on Tuesday, June 28th 9:00 AM – 10:00 AM (ET). Sean McAlpine, Chief Technical Officer for Blue Goose Biorefineries Inc. will discuss what improvements the addition of cellulose nanocrystals (CNC) to cementitious systems have made on a number of fresh and hardened properties. Previous work has reported benefits including improved strength, viscosity, and barrier properties. These improvements can provide fundamental improvements of the performance of concrete structures, while decreasing their carbon footprint.

Upon completion of this webinar, participants can expect to:

  1. Understand the effect of CNC has on concrete structures.
  2. Understand the commercial implications of introducing a new concrete admixture.

Meet Presenter: Sean McAlpine

Sean McAlpine is the Chief Technical Officer for Blue Goose Biorefineries Inc., a manufacturer of cellulose nanocrystals. He joined Blue Goose Biorefineries Inc. in 2012 as operations manager. Prior to this he started two business consulting companies specializing in new technology startups. He spent 17 years in the pulp and paper industry in various technical and management roles. Sean has a P. Eng, designation in Saskatchewan (chemical engineering) and an MBA in international business management.
