TAPPI Industry Career Center: Procter & Gamble Seeks an Associate Scientist in Microscopy, Imaging, and Forensic Sciences

Procter and Gamble’s (P&G) Baby, Feminine and Family Care Analytical organization has an immediate opening for a BS/MS Associate Scientist to develop and apply microscopy and imaging methods to drive technology and product development programs across our paper related businesses. The successful candidate will join a core microscopy and imaging laboratory where teamwork and individual initiative are highly valued. The group forms active partnerships with technology and product development to support a broad range of initiatives for Pampers and Luvs baby diapers, Always and Tampax feminine hygiene products, Bounty paper towels, Charmin toilet tissue, and Puffs facial tissue. The position is located in P&G’s Winton Hill Business Center in Cincinnati, OH. P&G is a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment that demands strong leadership, communication, and collaboration skills to successfully deliver business results.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner effectively with multi-functional, multi-disciplinary teams (e.g., Product Development, Technology Development, Product Research, Manufacturing, Packaging, Marketing, etc.)
  • Perform microscopy and image analysis, provide insights for problem solving
  • Implement and use digital tools and capabilities to extract insights from data.

Skills and Knowledge Qualifications:

  • Technical proficiency in microscopy and imaging techniques
  • Ability to follow established analytical procedures and develop novel procedures
  • A curious mindset and ability to learn new skills
  • Ability to solve problems and collaborate in teams
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to translate data into actionable insights, and use those insights to influence technical discussion and make recommendations
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing environments
  • Strong time management and priority setting skills

Education/ Experience Requirements:

  • You must have a BS/MS degree in a STEM field (Chemistry, Material Science, Chemical Engineering, Paper Science, Forensics Science, or related field.
  • Experience in light microscopy and/or electron microscopy is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with a programming language (Python, XML, R, C# or Java, etc.) or Data Analysis tools (machine learning, artificial intelligence, etc.) are a plus but not required.
