The planned sale of UPM's Chapelle Darblay mill to Veolia and Fibre Excellence via a municipal association has become official. Another containerboard mill will therefore arise in France.

Preparations for the sale of UPM's Chapelle Darblay mill in Grand-Couronne, France, have begun. On 1 March, the municipal association Métropole Rouen Normandie officially and unanimously decided that the site, which will initially be acquired by the association itself, will be resold to recycling company Veolia and pulp producer Fibre Excellence. The two companies plan to produce corrugated case material with a capacity of about 400,000 tpy at the mill in the future.

However, there are still some bureaucratic hurdles to be cleared before this can happen. According to the municipal association, the transfer of ownership and the payment are to take place on two dates on 11 May and 11 June 2022 at the latest.
