Jonathan Charles Kerr of Loveland, OH, passed away on November 17, 2021. Kerr was a TAPPI Fellow and the 2015 recipient of TAPPI’s Herman L. Joachim Distinguished Service Award. He was the beloved husband of Denice Duane Kerr, loving father of Emily (Nicholas) Keller and Andrew Kerr (Kimberly Wetzel), and adoring grandfather of Theodore Jonathan Keller.

Kerr attended Stetson University and University of Florida, graduating from the Paper Engineering program at Western Michigan University in 1982. He received his MBA from Xavier University in 1999. Kerr joined TAPPI as a student in 1981, and during his career spent time with Black Clawson and Andritz before serving as the executive director of the Paper Science & Engineering Foundation at Miami University from 2010 through 2017.

He was known across the industry not only for his expertise, but also for encouraging and elevating those around him. He was passionate about his volunteer work and mentoring youth, and an active volunteer not only within TAPPI but for the Boy Scouts of America and his church community.

To honor Jon Kerr’s passion for education and his time with Miami University’s PS&E Foundation, a scholarship endowment has been established in his name. The Jon Kerr Memorial Scholarship Endowment will fund a scholarship for a paper engineering student at Miami University in perpetuity. Those who wish to contribute may contact the PS&E Foundation at 513-529-0780 or email PSEF@MiamiOH.edu.
