Twin Rivers Paper EcoBarrier PFAS-Free Packaging Papers Earn BPI Compostability Certification

Twin Rivers Paper Company has received compostability certification from the Biodegradable Products Institute (BPI) for its portfolio of EcoBarrier® PFAS-free packaging papers.

According to Twin Rivers, products that receive BPI compostability certification have gone through rigorous third-party testing to ASTM standards that ensures items can be safely cycled back into the soil at a commercial composting facility. The BPI certification mark helps consumers identify and trust that an item is compostable.

"In addition to meeting our customers' stringent grease-resistance performance requirements, we're committed to helping customers meet their sustainability goals," said Rachel Van Wychen, Director of Sales - Specialty Packaging and Technical at Twin Rivers Paper. "With the achievement of BPI certification, our EcoBarrier products are 100% recyclable, biodegradable and compostable, making EcoBarrier papers the optimal substrate for sustainable packaging."

As states pass laws banning PFAS in food packaging by the end of 2023 and North American chemical companies curtail production of fluorochemical-based oil and grease-resistant agents, Twin Rivers Paper has accelerated its work with customers to qualify EcoBarrier PFAS-free products.

"Throughout the past decade, we've collaborated closely with converters and the largest fast-food, quick-serve and fast-casual restaurants to engineer and continuously optimize our portfolio of EcoBarrier PFAS-free packaging papers," Van Wychen added.
