Timken Launches ADAPT Bearing Line for Paper Industry Applications

Print Print this Article | Send to Colleague

The Timken Company, a world leader in engineered bearings and power transmission products, is expanding its ADAPT™ bearing product line to include paper dryer applications.

The ADAPT bearing from Timken meets the challenge of improving operations and extending bearing system life in applications with high dynamic misalignment and axial displacement. Its three-point contact design provides simultaneous radial loading, misalignment and axial displacement capability, resulting in a more reliable system solution that can lower total operational costs.

“The ADAPT bearing provides our customers with a new option for difficult applications,” said Doug Knauf, vice president distribution and regional OEM sales for Timken. “We worked closely with our customers to develop, test and validate the design.”

Timken application and service engineers will review the first-time use of the ADAPT bearing in new builds. This includes application review and bearing selection, and on-site assistance with installation.

Design Validation

To further demonstrate the superior performance of ADAPT bearings, Timken conducted extensive in-house design review and testing against equivalent-size toroidal bearings from leading brands. Results of the testing indicate that ADAPT bearings:
·
o Deliver up to 7 percent higher load ratings;
o Extend system life up to 30 percent;
o Reduce rotational torque up to 10 percent; and
o Handle simultaneous misalignment and axial float without offset calculation.

Customers can contact their local sales representative to discuss how ADAPT bearings can improve equipment performance.
