HSMG® announces the launch of the first formed fiber single-use food service products using its proprietary technologies replacing plastic coatings and fluorochemical additives (“PFAS”). Stora Enso, through its strategic partnership with HSMG, will be the first to manufacture this new generation of formed fiber products for use as quick service or take-away bowls and containers (see HSMG announces strategic collaboration with Stora Enso).

“Legislative efforts are catching up with environmental protections in banning single-use plastics and PFAS” said Samuel Mikail, Chairman of HSMG. “COVID has multiplied the need for disposable food containers which has intensified the urgency for eco-friendly solutions for the paper and pulp industries. PROTĒAN is the solution for producing disposable containers without the use of plastic coatings or the toxic ‘forever chemicals.’  Our latest achievement with formed fiber showcases PROTĒAN as the viable and market-friendly alternative for companies looking to implement truly bio-based solutions.”

Products enhanced by PROTĒAN, a plant-based barrier coating and additive technology, create single-use applications that are renewable, compostable, recyclable and biodegradable. It is a critical time for new solutions to replace fossil-based, legacy technologies. With a team of in-house experts, patented technologies and know-how, HSMG offers alternatives to plastic-coated paper products and food service items that are treated with PFAS.
