Leading a $20 billion global provider of paper and packaging into a more sustainable future is among Steve Voorhees’ most important priorities.

Steve Voorhees, chief operating officer of WestRock, will be the keynote speaker at TAPPI’s 2020 Pulping, Engineering, Environmental, Recycling and Sustainability (PEERS) Conference, November 2-4, where he will highlight packaging’s role in a more circular economy, and the critical importance of corporate sustainability planning that includes people and communities. Under Voorhees’ leadership, WestRock has grown to become the second largest US paper industry company. Earlier this year, Voorhees was named TAPPI/PIMA Executive of the Year. He earned this prestigious honor—presented to senior-level executives in the pulp, paper, or converting industries for excellence in management and outstanding contributions to the industry—for leading WestRock through unprecedented growth and success.

Pulp Mills Save Money and Time With Virtual Conferences

TAPPI’s popular Pulping, Engineering, Environmental, Recycling and Sustainability (PEERS) and International Bioenergy and Bioproducts Conferences (IBBC) are going virtual on November 2-4, 2020. This change creates an opportunity for many industry professionals to take advantage of the high quality technical sessions, research and keynote addresses without leaving their mill or office. Mills can save money and time while still offering exceptional training opportunities to employees.

PEERS is considered the premier technical event focusing on the latest advances in technology, as well as fundamental process knowledge and control issues mills face each day. Offering attendees insight into industry trends and emerging products, the peer-reviewed technical program includes expert-led discussions on critical topics such as:

  • Environmental/Regulations
  • Sustainability and Recycling
  • Pulping and Bleaching
  • Energy, Recovery, Lime Kiln and Recaust
  • Plant Engineering
  • Nonwoods

Attendees can also build new business relationships through virtual connection opportunities offered during the event. The virtual exhibits give attendees a chance to speak with suppliers about the latest technologies and solutions.

PEERS is Co-Located with IBBC

TAPPI’s International Bioenergy & Bioproducts Conference (IBBC) brings together scientists, engineers and other professionals interested in leveraging the knowledge and assets in the pulp and paper industry to produce fuel, energy, and chemicals from biomass. Attendees have the opportunity to learn about the latest advances and technologies in the industry and engage in discussions on key topics including:

  • Biomass Processing and Conversion Pathways
  • Wood-based Foams and Packaging Films
  • Biocomposites and Bioproducts
  • Supporting the Sustainable Bioeconomy

Program details are being finalized and will be posted to both websites soon: TAPPIPEERS.org and TAPPI-IBBC.org. For information, contact TAPPI Division Manager Lisa Stephens.
