Artist Creates Compelling Animated Stories With Paper Cups

 

Traditional drawing paper is normally produced for use on flat surfaces, but as paper products have become more common in food and beverage containers such as cups over the past decade, an artist has seized on the opportunity to apply ink to the absorbent, clean surface of what have become his multi-layered, story-telling paper cups. 

According to a report earlier this week by the "Millennial Generation" digital magazine Mental Floss (Birmingham, Ala., USA, Japanese artist "shin shinrashinge" created the moving comics by meticulously cutting up paper cups to exact detail and then drawing on them.

 

When the cups are put together, they become multi-layered and are rotated in a specific order. They tell stories that seem to come to life. Viewers can watch doors fly open, backdrops move, and word bubbles change text. The smooth surface of paper makes transitioning easy.

 

This demonstration is an example of the versatility of paper products and a possible inspiration to suppliers of special lines of paper cups for the commercial beverage market.
