A 20 MW rooftop solar project has been completed at Asia Pulp & Paper Group’s (APP) Gold HongYe Mill in Suzou, China, creating one of the world’s largest rooftop solar installations. The panels cover approximately 300,000 square meters.

The installation consists of 10,000 panels installed across the 12 production buildings, warehouses, and administrative buildings of the mill. It is anticipated that the solar project will produce approximately 20 million KWh—enough to power 6,000 homes in the local area.

"Investment in renewable energy in China continues apace and we are proud to be a part of growth in the sector. Our rooftops are helping to reduce the country’s carbon emissions while at the same time supplying power to the local community." said Madam Zhai, deputy CEO at APP China.

Gold HongYe Paper Group is a subsidiary of Asia Pulp & Paper. The company operates four papermaking mills and sixteen processing plants across China and employs more than 13,000 people. It is the market leader for household paper and toilet tissue in Asia, producing in excess of  500,000 metric tpy of base paper and 600,000 metric tpy of finished goods under the Virjoy, Breeze, and Zhen Zhen brands.
