Hartman Receives Paper Technology Foundation Fellowship Award

The Paper Technology Foundation at Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo, Mich., USA, a 501(c)3 corporation, has named Richard Hartman, New-Indy Containerboard COO, a Foundation Fellow. Hartman, a graduate of Western Michigan University, has served as a trustee of the Paper Technology Foundation (PTF) since 2005. The mission of the PTF is focused on creating opportunities for students and graduates to excel in the pulp and paper industry.
Hartman earned his bachelor’s degree in chemistry and paper science from Western Michigan University in 1977. He also attended the Institute of Paper Chemistry where he graduated with a M.S. in management science and a PhD in paper physics.
Hartman has been employed in the pulp and paper industry for 40 years with James River Corp., Simpson Paper Co., International Paper Co., Rand-Whitney Containerboard, and now New-Indy Containerboard. He has worked in several areas throughout his career—marketing, manufacturing, plant management, capital project management, and business leadership. He was named COO for New-Indy Containerboard in 2012, after the Kraft Group and Schwarz Partners announced a joint venture to purchase two recycled containerboard mills from International Paper.
