Effective Jan. 1, 2014, Ahlstrom, Finland, will divide its Food and Medical Business Area into two sectors—Food Business Area and Medical Business Area. In conjunction with the change in the business area structure, there will also be management changes. The company’s current operating model will remain unchanged.

With this change, Ahlstrom plans to strengthen its focus on the food and medical applications and to address growth and profitability issues in these businesses. Going forward, the company will operate five business areas: Advanced Filtration, Building and Energy, Food, Medical, and Transportation Filtration. Earlier this year, Ahlstrom split its filtration interests into two segments, Advanced Filtration and Transportation Filtration.

Omar Hoek has been appointed EVP, Food Business Area, and a member of the executive management team. Hoek joined Ahlstrom in 2011 and currently works as VP, marketing, food and medical. Roberto Boggio, will serve as EVP, Medical Business Area, and a member of the executive management team. Boggio joined Ahlstrom in 1998 and currently works as VP, supply chain, for both Advanced Filtration and Transportation Filtration. Both will report to Jan Lång, president and CEO.

Seppo Parvi, currently CFO and EVP, Food and Medical Business Area, will leave Ahlstrom during the first quarter of 2014 as announced in September.
