Fortress Paper Resumes Operations at FSC Mill

Fortress Paper Ltd., Vancouver, B.C., Canada, reports that all four digesters at its Fortress Specialty Mill (FSC Mill) in Thurso, Qué., Canada, have now resumed operation after being shut down since December 5 to complete required and preventative repairs to piping. Accordingly, the FSC Mill has resumed production and is ramping up operation of the cogeneration facility.

The digesters were shut down after "an incident" occurred at the mill on December 2, which the company initially believed was repairable in the normal course. However, upon further investigation it was determined that the incident was caused by an improper third-party pipe fitting installation on one of the mill’s four digesters.

Yvon Pelletier, president of Fortress Specialty Cellulose Inc., noted that "while this operational technical setback was beyond our control and unfortunate, I am very proud of our team that was able to expeditiously rectify the issue. As a result of its diligent efforts, we have resumed production at the FSC Mill with limited downtime."
