More than 175 delegates from 26 countries assembled in Girona, Spain July 8-11, for the 2025 TAPPI International Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable Materials (“TAPPI Nano”). This was the fourteenth occurrence of the TAPPI Nano conference, dating back to 2009.
The  American Forest Foundation (AFF) announced today that Netflix has committed to a 15-year contract to purchase verified carbon credits produced through AFF’s Fields & Forests project (F&F), an Afforestation, Reforestation, and Revegetation (ARR) carbon project that partners with family landowners to transition their underused fields to thriving, working forests.

Voith, Modern Karton and Harbin Electric International Company Limited (HEI) are celebrating the successful start-up of the new high-speed XcelLine PM 6 and the associated BlueLine stock preparation plant at the Zonguldak site in Turkey.
Toscotec will supply a new tissue line PM7 for the Grigeo Group’s facility in Grigiškės (Vilnius, Lithuania). This repeat order marks a significant milestone in a partnership spanning over 15 years between the two companies, following the successful installation of the PM6 tissue line in 2013 and previous smaller projects involving Yankee Dryers and Hood replacements on other machines within the group.
The PM7 (Paper Machine) from Munksjö Caieiras, located in São Paulo, Brazil, has recently undergone a major modernization as part of the company’s ExpanDecor project, which is the largest investment in Munksjö’s history in Latin America. Runtech delivered ropeless tail threading system to PM7, featuring Runshooter technology with detailed engineering and startup support for the dryer section. With the upgrade Caieiras targeted more fluent and faster tail threading and improved operator safety.

Stora Enso inaugurated a new consumer packaging board production line at its Oulu mill, the largest and most modern in Europe. The line is part of a total investment of approximately EUR 1.7 billion from 2019 to 2025, responding to the growing global demand for renewable packaging and contributing to the transition toward a circular bioeconomy.
Greif completed the divestiture of its containerboard business to Packaging Corporation of America for $1.8 billion in cash, the companies announced after markets closed Tuesday afternoon. The transaction itself closed on Sunday, according to a securities filing.

Most web inspection systems use light transmitted through the sheet and cannot be used to ship-by-gauge according to TAPPI and ISO standard test methods which require that dirt specks be measured with reflected light to report TAPPI (EBA) dirt results.

 Metsä Group, a leading Finnish forest industry group whose operations span pulp, paperboard, tissue, and wood products, has started operating a carbon capture pilot plant at its Rauma mill, in cooperation with technology company Andritz, which supplied the plant. The pilot will test the capture of carbon dioxide from pulp mill flue gases, an application not previously trialed in the industry.
