We mourn the loss of Hal W. Tanner, who passed away on November 8. He was an accomplished TAPPI Member since 1969 and was inducted as a TAPPI Fellow in 1998 for his meritorious service to the association and the industry.
A very active member and volunteer, Tanner served on over 20 TAPPI committees, including the Executive committee for 2 years and the Board of Directors for 3 years. He was presented the Corrugated Packaging Division Technical Award and Harry J. Bettendorf prize in 1995.
Tanner also contributed to the Fibre Box Association, the American Forest & Paper Association, and served as a guest lecturer at Georgia Tech's Institute of Paper Science and Technology.
His contributions to TAPPI and the industry will be celebrated for years to come. TAPPI sends condolences to his family and friends.
A memorial service will be held in early January 2026.
