UPM has announced that it will initiate a strategic review of its UPM Plywood business area. The sale of the division is one of the possibilities. However, the company notes that a range of possibilities would be considered, including a potential separation from UPM for example through a divestment, a partial demerger or an initial public offering. The review is expected to be concluded by the end of 2026.

The group explains that it wants to assess options for maximising the long-term potential of the Plywood business in a evolving market environment. "The decision to initiate a strategic review of UPM Plywood reflects our commitment to position each UPM business for long-term success,” said Massimo Reynaudo, President and CEO of UPM.

The UPM Plywood business area offers plywood and veneer products for construction, vehicle flooring, LNG shipbuilding, parquet manufacturing and other industrial applications. In the first half of 2025, the division booked an operating profit of €8m, down from €26m one year before. Over the past twelve months, earnings have declined gradually.
