Swedish paper manufacturer Holmen Board and Paper has introduced a new lightweight kraftliner produced at the company's Braviken mill in Sweden.

Marketed under the brand name Holmen Elevate, the new product is described to be the lightest kraftliner currently available on the market, with basis weights of 72, 82 and 92 g/m², writes Holmen.

According to the company Elevate delivers one of the lowest carbon footprints in the sector, with CO₂ emissions 80 per cent below the European average for the board and paper industry.

At the Braviken mill, Holmen operates two paper machines. PM 53 produces up to 300,000 tpy of uncoated magazine and catalogue paper, while the portfolio of PM 52, which until recently was also dedicated to these grades, has been converted to also produce containerboard and book paper. Prior to the rebuild, the machine's capacity was reported at around 300,000 tpy.

“This marks an important step in our strategy to grow within the containerboard market,” says Tommy Wiksand, Business Development Director, Holmen Board and Paper. “Holmen Elevate meets current market demands and supports future requirements for cost-efficient solutions and low climate impact.”
