More than 175 delegates from 26 countries assembled in Girona, Spain July 8-11, for the 2025 TAPPI International Conference on Nanotechnology for Renewable Materials (“TAPPI Nano”). This was the fourteenth occurrence of the TAPPI Nano conference, dating back to 2009. Looking ahead to 2026, TAPPI’s Nano Division has been renamed as the TAPPI International Division of Advanced Technologies for Renewable Materials (“ARM”), reflecting increased global interest in advanced biobased materials. ARM will be uniting with TAPPICon in Columbus Ohio, April 27-29, 2026.

Following an academic tour of the University of Girona and an industrial tour of Hinjosa Packaging Group, the conference officially opened with a keynote by José Maria Lagarón, Ph.D., Founder, CEO and Chief Science Officer (CSO) at Bionanopharma SL and Founder and CTO at Bioinicia SL. Dr. Lagarón is also a full professor at CSIC, on leave. The topic of the keynote was industrial applications of commercial and biowaste derived nanocellulose in biocomposites, biopolymers, and biopapers.

More than 80 technical presentations, plus two additional keynotes followed, along with an end user panel and a New Technology Showcase. Students were also prominent in the agenda, with a student career roundtable, poster session, student committee mentor/mentee lunch, and a student rapid fire session.
