The Shift Toward Packaging Continues

 

 

 

Once more focused on communication papers, the pulp and paper industry has evolved into what could now be described as the “packaging, tissue, and pulp” industry. According to FisherSolve, in 2024, containerboard and cartonboard together accounted for 53% of North America’s production, up from 40% in 2008. Meanwhile, newsprint and printing paper declined from a combined 30% to just 12% over the same period.
