U.K. Papermaking Sector Beats Climate Change Agreements Target

Improvements in the energy efficiency of U.K. paper mills during the two-year period 2015-16 have outstripped targets set out in the Government’s Climate Change Agreements scheme by around 38%.

All 45 paper mills in the U.K. participate in the Government’s Climate Change Agreements (CCA) scheme where, in return for delivering energy efficiency improvements over successive two-year periods, the operating companies qualify for partial relief from the Climate Change Levy tax. The CCA scheme is administered by the Environment Agency for government and by the Confederation of Paper Industries (CPI) for mills.

For the most recent two-year period, 2015-16, the sector’s agreed target was to deliver a 7.05% improvement over 2008 performance (defined in terms of a specific set of energy efficiency measurements mostly related to the use of electricity). The actual improvement achieved was 9.74%, about 38% ahead of target.

CPI Director General Andrew Large noted that "this result shows that on top of delivering very significant improvements in energy efficiency and carbon reduction since the Kyoto base year of 1990, U.K. papermaking energy efficiency is still improving despite the savings becoming increasingly difficult to achieve. Paper mills are investing in energy and carbon saving measures and the industry is determined to play its part in the U.K. meeting its climate change obligations."

Global Paper Machine Systems Market: Drivers and Restraints
A new report titled Paper Machine Systems Market: Global Industry Trend Analysis 2012 to 2017 and Forecast 2017 – 2025 is now available through Persistence Market Research, New York, N.Y., USA. According to authors of this report, the growing consumption of paper and paperboard is one of the prime factor driving the global paper machine systems market.

Pulp and paper production is growing with the extreme demand for drive technology or systems, as paper machine systems ensure smooth interaction between the various forces involved in the manufacture of paper. The superior operational benefits further drive the global paper machine system market. The increasing demand for economic and ecological advantages by pulp and paper producers further fuels the paper machine systems market.

On the basis of machine type, paper machine systems market can be segmented as follows: Fourdrinier, Twin-wire, Multi-ply. On the basis of system type, paper machine systems market can be segmented as follows: Paper drying system, Blow through systems, Trap based systems, Pocket and hood ventilation system, Paper vacuum system, Quality control systems, and Others.

The global paper machine systems market is divided into seven regions: North America, Latin America, Asia Pacific excluding Japan (APEJ), Western Europe, Eastern Europe, Japan, and the Middle East and Africa (MEA).
The paper machine systems market in Western Europe is robust with the presence of established players such as MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG, ABB Ltd, Popp Maschinenbau GmbH etc. Also, countries such as Sweden, Germany, Italy and Finland are among the top in the production of paper and paperboard.

The availability of advanced machinery for paper production influences manufacturers to increase their yield ratio also. The APEJ paper machine systems market is expected to grow at a significant CGAR during the forecast period, due to the increasing consumption of paper and pulp products. Also, the availability of skilled labor force at a below average cost rate further drives the consumption of paper machine systems market in the region.

The paper machine systems North America is matured with the consolidation of the market by the prominent players. For instance, in 2015 BW Paper Systems acquired the BW Bielomatik Machines, a Germany-based machinery manufacturer to enhance its global position.

A TOC of the report is available online. A sample of the report also is available online.

Some of the prominent players identified in the global paper machine systems market include: ABB Ltd, Seiko Epson Corp., Forbes Marshall, MAN Diesel & Turbo Schweiz AG, Voith GmbH, Valmet, Andritz, BW Papersystems (A Barry-Wehmiller Co.), Popp Maschinenbau GmbH, Rockwell Automation, TMEIC, and Runtech Systems Oy.

The research report presents a comprehensive assessment of the market and contains thoughtful insights, facts, historical data, and statistically supported and industry-validated market data. It also contains projections using a suitable set of assumptions and methodologies. The research report provides analysis and information according to market segments such as geography, technology, and applications.
