I am very excited to being leading this incredible chapter, and I feel very fortunate to have some great mentors in PMPI who helped unleash something in me. This chapter year I am challenging each of you to use PMPI to unleash YOUR inner Rock Star.

Yes, you heard me right, Rock Star! We all want to be successful in our jobs. We all want to move to that next level in our career, whether it is at our current company or at our dream job on the horizon. We want our bosses to think of us as their professional Rock Stars – the individuals who always do incredible work and look good doing it. I want to give back to the chapter that has helped to shape me as a leader and a successful meeting professional today by helping each of you to tap into your inner talents and resources – your Rock Star.

PMPI should be a key tool to help you reach this level of stardom. I am surrounded by a very talented Board of Directors who will be working extremely hard to deliver the tools that you need to move you to the next level. We will strive to provide higher levels of education and great networking events for you to connect with peers and potential business partners. We will continue to grow our social media presence, and we hope you will become part of the dialogue. We will work to better communicate with you, our members, about all the opportunities to connect and be a part of our chapter.

Now, I challenge each of you to discover what you want to get out of PMPI. Get involved and let us know how we can help you tap into those undiscovered inner resources. If you look a little bit deeper, you will see your inner Rock Star just waiting to get out.

2012-2013 PMPI Chapter President

Monday night, June 18th was a good night for star gazing in Washington, DC. PMPI chapter members, friends and family met at the Liaison Capitol Hill, an Affinia Hotel, to honor those who went the extra mile in our chapter.

We gave a heart-felt send off to six exiting board members and said goodbye and a thank you to our out-going President, Kumi Anzalone, CMP, CASE, with VisitRaleigh. We offered a warm welcome to new board members and our in-coming President, Will Trokey, CMP, of VisitCharlotte, who reminded us that PMPI Rocks as he outlined what his goals were for the chapter and the exciting initiatives and education that awaits us next year.

We thank all of you for your support this year.

Every $1.00 you give to this fund or any additional monies you decide to contribute will continue to assist and support our members, many who have been struggling during these tough economic times. As a result of your generosity, PMPI was able to provide numerous scholarships for members to participate in many chapter events this past year.

Additionally, through this fund, the Member Recognition Committee wanted to give one recipient an opportunity to experience the highest level of education that MPI provides with a scholarship to attend the World Education Congress in St. Louis, MO. The WEC Scholarship was also generously supported and sponsored by American Airlines that provided a round trip airfare.

Also a very special thank you to Katie Heritage who was our main contributor for this Award. The recipient of this year’s PMPI Care Fund WEC Scholarship is Michelle Allgauer, CAE, CMM, CMP.

Are you thinking about acquiring an industry designation and would like to speak with a fellow member who has gone through the process? Whether a CMP, CMM, CSEP or other, we have member volunteers willing to speak with you to share their personal experiences and help you learn which designation is the best fit for your career path.

Industry Designation "Human Resource" Program

PMPI has developed a program that will allow our members with industry designations to share their experiences and expertise with the future CMPs, CMMs, CEMs, CGMPs etc., of tomorrow. In 2012 we are launching the first ever Industry Designation "Human Resource" Program. We will be using our greatest resource, experienced, working industry peers within PMPI, to help answer inquiries, provide direction, leadership, general knowledge and share personal experience with those PMPI members interested in taking ownership of their own professional development by acquiring one or more of the various industry designation and certification programs.

Below is a list of PMPI members willing to accept your outreach with questions regarding their particular designation and industry discipline and resulting in helping to act as a trusted counselor or supporter to guide you through the process. Who best to learn from than from someone who has already gone through the process. Most communication will be via e-mail, telephone and, to a lesser degree, in person if both parties desire and are able to meet face-to-face.

Based on the amount of interest our designation volunteers receive on this initial program we may provide a more formalized program later down the road in which a mentor and mentee are identified and matched for a specified period of time.
