Let Us Know What You Think!

It's not too late to share your thoughts about MPI — and be entered to win a $100 Amazon gift card — through the annual MPI Membership and Chapter Satisfaction Survey.

The survey is one of the most important tools the organization uses to capture the thoughts of members and can go a long way to improve your membership experience — but only if we know what you’d like to improve!

Search for an email in your inbox from Drew Holmgreen, which was sent on February 21 with the subject line: “Your 2023 Membership and Chapter Satisfaction Survey has arrived.” If you don’t see the email, please reach out to feedback@mpi.org.

The survey is open through Friday, March 24, at 11:59 p.m. CST. Thank you in advance for your time and participation!

MPI Potomac Chapter, DEI Committee Co-chair

Early this year, the DE&I committee met in person for the first time in many years, it seems, to workshop the initiatives we have been championing all year. A large chunk of the time was spent on updating the DE&I Checklist for events.

Meeting in person was fantastic. It allowed us to really dig into the topic to discuss, debate, learn and grow — both our own selves and our vision for this checklist.

As always, we state up front that this checklist is neither fully comprehensive nor a list that, once checked off, can be held up as evidence of inclusivity or equity. Whether your outcome would be judged performative or sincere would truly depend on both the intent and the full scope under which it is enacted.

Having said that, here is the updated checklist.

The checklist speaks mostly for itself, but here are a few things we would like you to know about the updated list:

MPI Potomac Skates to be Heart Healthy

The Community Outreach team organized this year’s Be The Change event at Silver Spring Ice Skating Rink. Because February is Heart Health Month and, of course, brings us Valentine’s Day, our participants donned red and skated to bring awareness to heart health and to support the American Heart Association.

Huge thanks to our sponsors: Visit Milwaukee, PreCon Events, Visit Montgomery County and the DoubleTree Silver Spring.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and participants, MPI Potomac was able to donate $650 to the American Heart Association!

Thanks to everyone who joined us!

While not everyone might be a manager in the workplace, everyone has a responsibility to manage their work relationships, especially with their supervisor. Future leaders might focus on sharpening their skills in a niche area but often overlook the importance of preparing to be effective managers.

Developing and building a strong manager-employee relationship is crucial for both business impact and job satisfaction. Both you and your boss must shoulder the responsibility of making the relationship a success.

Learning how to manage up before becoming a boss is key to career advancement and climbing the corporate ladder. Let’s dive into what managing up means, how to do it effectively and its benefits.
