The Season of Giving is Upon Us

It is officially December, and that means it's time for the annual Marine Corps Toys for Tots toy drive. This year marks the 75th year of this remarkable organization, which provides new toys for families who are not able to provide as much for their children this holiday season.

Toys for Tots was started by Reserve Major Bill Hendricks and his wife, Diane, in 1947.
The Marines adopted the program the following year, and Walt Disney helped design the iconic logo. In the time since, the organization has donated 627 million toys to over 281 million children.

While Marines collect and organize donations, the toys are distributed by community groups and local law enforcement agencies.

Despite its record 75-year history, the donations in many cities in the country and in our area are still running short, and the program may not be able to provide toys to the many kids who are in need. One major reason for the decline is the rise of remote working and the lack of large donation bins in office buildings.

But you still have time to donate a new, unwrapped toy or even to make a monetary donation.

Check out these sites for the D.C.-area local Toys for Tots pages to see how and where you can donate or volunteer:
