News & Announcements

Over 100 meeting industry professionals gathered at the Bonsai Garden in the U.S. National Arboretum for Summer Sizzle 2019. Attendees did not let the weather impact their "Around the World" experience to learn more about MPI Potomac volunteer opportunities. Guests were treated to catering from the event sponsor, Purple Onion Catering.

If you missed Summer Sizzle, you can still join a committee here!

MPI Potomac has a committee for all interests. See below for a list of committees and sign up today!

Business Development - The role of the Business Development Committee is to have a strong base of cash and in-kind partner support for MPI Potomac programs and activities throughout the year. We ensure the standards of recognition are implemented at all chapter events and manage the relationship with the chapter's contracted cash and in-kind partners.

Career Development - The Certifications and Career Development Committee supports the professional development of the events and meeting industry, including coordination of two annual CMP exam preparation courses and one CMP Bootcamp.

Professional Development - The Professional Development Committee creates, promotes, sets the foundation for and executes phenomenal Educational Experiences, lovingly known within the chapter as our “e2” events! These e2s provide the MPI Potomac membership with relevant, career-advancing sessions at least five times each year. Members of this committee are in charge of all aspects of logistical planning, from topic and speaker selection, room and AV set, transportation and on-site coordination. We actively seek member feedback to determine which topics have the greatest impact on day-to-day life in the meetings profession, and events are enjoyed by the entire membership, as well as the Washington, D.C., metro community.

Leadership Development, Diversity & Inclusion - New for the 2019-2020 chapter year, the Leadership Development, Diversity & Inclusion Committee seeks to promote diversity and inclusion in all aspects of the MPI Potomac chapter. The team also promotes leadership and leadership opportunities for chapter members.

Marketing & PR - Join the social media superstars to create and launch exciting social media campaigns, e-blasts, videos and other marketing communications to promote MPI Potomac and of all our MPI Potomac events. We are on a mission to build our fan base as the premier organization for event professionals in the nation's capital. We work closely with other committees to drive their results through online engagement of planners and industry partners and have fun doing it.

Publications - The Publications Committee produces publications for MPI Potomac in both print and digital formats, including Engage magazine, published in print twice per year, and the FYI e-newsletter, published monthly featuring news and upcoming events. They also keep the website updated with relevant and useful content to be a resource for our members and the industry.

Regional Conference - MACE - The MACE Committee presents an annual one-day conference to provide chapter members continuing education credits and networking opportunities. Members of this committee are in charge of all aspects of logistical planning, from topic and speaker selection, room & AV set, transportation and on-site coordination.

Networking Events - New for the 2019-2020 chapter year, the Networking Events Committee is creating new events to engage membership and connect the industry. Volunteers do more than pre-planning and on-site registration; you can be a part of a team creating new events like Trivia Night and Happy Hours and discovering new, exciting event venues!

Member Recruitment - The Member Recruitment Committee gets the word out about the benefits of MPI Potomac and assists in growing our chapter via member recruitment campaigns and events, exhibits at local industry trade shows and student sessions at local universities. Member recruitment provides organic networking with current and prospective members. Join our Member Recruitment team today to make an impact on the MPI Potomac Chapter!

Member Engagement & Community Outreach - The purpose of the Member Engagement and Community Outreach Committee is two-fold: first, to nurture the ongoing dialogue between our members and chapter leadership; second, to give back to the community. As a chapter, we have partnered with local organizations to give back. For the Summer Sizzle, we just launched a partnership with Make A Wish. Join us by making your cash donations here and frequent flier miles here to our local Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic Chapter. #AroundTheWorld

Member Retention & Recognition - Member retention and recognition is critical to the success of the chapter. This committee works to recognize and show genuine appreciation for the MPI Potomac volunteers who share their time and expertise with our chapter and the industry at-large. We also act as supplement to MPI Global retention program in outreach efforts to new members and engagement with members close to renewal time, and we contact those whose membership have expired to understand why they have not renewed and get them re-engaged in the chapter.
