Diversity and Inclusion Task Force

The MPI Potomac Chapter has organized a Diversity and Inclusion Task Force that will begin meeting monthly outside of our regularly scheduled board meetings. It’s time not only to ask the hard questions, but to develop a plan to embrace hard working individuals from every culture, every race, every orientation, and provide education and a path to be a successful leader. But we cannot do this alone, nor do we want to. It is time to begin the conversation and provide to the membership our goals of what we are hoping to achieve in the coming months and years. Our hope is to develop some great ideas and incorporate action steps in order to be a more educated and diverse organization.

The term diversity is not an unfamiliar word. It is popular in our industry, pops up daily in our news cycle, and seems to be an initiative in every organization I am attached to. But, what does diversity really mean, and what are we doing to move it passed being a subject of conversation, and making it an everyday focus? We see, especially in our organization from our friends at global down to our very own Potomac Chapter, the need to bring this topic to light and start making some moves to where this is no longer a problem, but something we celebrate. We are living in on the most densely diverse areas in the country, its time our chapter is represented like we do.
