Looking To The Future - Strengthening Your Mentorship Experience

January 2023 is National Mentoring Month, but I want us to look beyond and set a vision for the year. We have been through the fire, collectively and individually, and I believe without the power of mentorship and support of each other it would be even harder.
Mentorship is a key theme in our journey. No matter where we are on that path, we cannot do it alone. I can only speak from my personal experiences that I have mentors in different seasons. There’s a saying “A Season, A Reason, A Lifetime”. The MPI Potomac Chapter mentorship committee would like to challenge you to set the path for collaboration and building a stronger mentorship experience in 2023.
What will be the framework for change:
· Clarity, Communication, Commitment!
· Requires knowing What you need and Asking for it!
· Understanding what you need to Thrive!
· Commit to Action!
· Maximize your opportunities!
Examples of mentee goals for a mentoring relationship could include:
· Skill development
· Career planning, moving forward and your next steps
· Developing a strong intellectual community
· Networking
· Ask for Feedback
· Accountability
· Problem-solving skills
Examples of a mentor’s goals for helping their mentee may be:
· Growing their leadership skills
· Developing a reputation as an advisor and guide for others
· Strengthening their emotional intelligence and communication skills
· Deepening your own self-awareness
· Gaining new perspectives
