A Visit with MPI Potomac Past-President Margaret Miller, CMP, Strategic Sales Executive, Experient, and MPI Potomac Chapter President 2013-2014

It was my pleasure to connect with longtime MPI supporter and leader, Margaret Miller, CMP. Like many suppliers, she joined MPI because it was "her job to be involved." She was new to the D.C. market and decided to be an active member and join a committee from the very start. Margaret quickly found that being active in MPI and the Potomac Chapter allowed her the opportunity to build client relationships and facilitated conducting business.

Margaret enthusiastically shared, "The best benefit is that everyone has the ability to be involved and truly be immersed in our meetings industry. There are so many opportunities to be in a leadership role and to truly strengthen your own leadership skills. ... When you commit to a leadership role, it is such a fantastic experience! It allows you to truly be immersed in how the organization runs. It also allows you to really experience the passion of our volunteers and members. Going full circle – it provides an enormous opportunity to grow great business relationships you may enjoy for a very long time."

A Behind the Scenes Leader

Many members can attribute their success to Margaret. While it didn’t take long for Margaret to assume numerous leadership roles in the chapter, she was more anxious to help others reap the benefits of the MPI experience and move them forward. Margaret’s peers provide glowing praise of her generous and supportive nature. She has been a great mentor to those who needed professional advice and encouragement. She sees the opportunities and talents of volunteers and helps them polish their skill sets to help them reach their full potential.

In her modest style, she is quick to credit other MPI Potomac Chapter members for their support and guidance. She shared, "From my involvement with the chapter, I have created truly strong relationships. Being a member of MPI Potomac Chapter truly allows you to surround yourself with individuals who are experts in their fields." Margaret continues that it’s about cultivating these strong relationships and alliances that can be beneficial resources while also giving back to these individuals too.

Margaret has proven her devotion to our chapter by serving as Chair of the Leadership Committee and as a Board Member for over ten years in various positions, such as Strategic Events and Vice President of Membership.

Margaret’s fellow chapter members have recognized her dedication and accomplishments by awarding her the award for Supplier of the Year and the Distinguished Leader Award. The Distinguished Leader Award is the pinnacle award recognizing members who for more than 10 years have contributed to the continued enhancement of the organization and the global meetings industry.
